  1. When you click the Add Pipes button, the Pipe Symbol is displayed next to your mouse pointer when the pointer is in the Drawing Pane.

  1. Click on the place on the Drawing Pane where you want the Pipe to start.

  1. Click on the place where you want the Pipe to end.

  1. The Pipe is added to the system and is selected in the Drawing Pane. Define the Pipe’s properties in the Pipe Pane.

  1. The rubber-banding functionality of the Add Pipes feature provides the ability to continue drawing additional connected sections of Pipe after adding a section of Pipe.
See Section: Interface and Menus > Configuration Options Dialog > Editor Tab for further information about enabling or disabling rubber banding.

  1. If you want to continue adding connected lengths of Pipe to the system, move the mouse pointer to draw the Pipe, and click where you want the Pipes to end. To turn off the rubber-banding, press the right mouse button (right-click).

  1. Type the Pipe’s name in the Name field.

  1. If the Default Pipe type and values for the system are defined on the Default Values tab in the Configuration Options dialog, you are done adding the Pipe.

  1. The Pipe type, default length, internal diameter and roughness values are displayed in the Pipe Pane.

  1. If the default Pipe values are not being used for the Pipe, continue with Steps 12 to 25.

  1. Type the length of the Pipe into the Length field.

  1. Click the Material button.

  1. Clicking the Material button opens the Pipe Data screen.. A list of all the Pipe Materials available in the Pipe Material Database are displayed in the Choose New Pipe Material list.

  1. Select the Pipe’s material from the Choose New Pipe Material list.

  1. If the Pipe material is not in the Choose New Pipe Material list, click the Add New material button to add the new material to the list.
See Section: Adding a Pipe Material to the Database for further information.

  1. Click the Select button or double-click the row containing the material.

  1. The selected material is displayed in the Pipe section of the Pipe Data screen, and a list of all the different pipe sizes available for the selected pipe material is displayed in the pipe diameter list.

Figure 61  Pipe Data Screen – Choose Pipe Size

  1. Select the applicable pipe size from the list.

  1. If the pipe size is not in the list, click the Add New Pipe Size button to add the new size to the list. For more information about adding a pipe size.
See Section: Adding Pipe Size Data to the Database for further information.

  1. Click the Transfer Selected Pipe Size button or double-click the row containing the size.

  1. The selected size is displayed below the pipe material in the Pipe section of the Pipe Data screen.

  1. The material, schedule/class, internal roughness and internal diameter can be edited in the Pipe section.

NOTE: When editing pipe data, Pipe Flow Expert automatically recalculates the Pipe’s derived attributes to ensure the data remains consistent.  If the user changes the material or schedule/class and the updated values exactly match an existing material/schedule combination in the database, the Pipe’s derived properties (wall thickness, outside diameter, weight, internal volume and surface area) are refreshed based on the nominal size for that material/schedule.  Likewise, if the internal diameter is modified, the associated derived attributes are updated to reflect the values linked to the corresponding nominal size.

NOTE: The edits made only affect the current Pipe’s properties; they do not affect the database data.

  1. Click Save Pipe to add the Pipe’s material and size, and to close the Pipe Data screen.

Now, on the Pipe Pane, the Pipe’s material is shown under the Roughness field, the nominal size is shown under the Diameter field, and the Pipe’s length, internal diameter, and roughness are displayed in the Length, Diameter, and Roughness fields.
