Adding Pipe Size Data to the Database
If the pipe size data you are using in the pipe system does not exist in the Pipe Flow Expert Pipe Database, you can quickly add the size data to the database by clicking the Add New Pipe Size button on the Pipe Data screen.
NOTE: Be sure to enter the value for the Pipe’s size data in the units displayed on the column header. For example, if you are using imperial units, and lbs/ft for pounds per foot is displayed under Weight in the Weight column, the weight value should be entered in pounds per foot.
To add new size data to the Pipe Database:
- Select a Pipe in the pipe system and click the Diameter
button in the Pipe Pane, or click the Diam? button on the Pipe Data tab on the Configuration Options dialog to open the Pipe Data screen dialog with the size list displayed.
- Click the Add New Pipe Size button.
- Clicking the Add New Pipe Size button opens the Add Pipe Data section on the Pipe Data screen.
- The Pipe’s nominal size will be automatically calculated from the Pipe’s outside diameter data and the type of material selected. If the user prefers the Nominal Size field can be selected from the dropdown list of nominal Pipe sizes.
- Type the Pipe’s internal diameter in the Internal Diam. field.
- Type the wall thickness of the Pipe in the Wall Thick. field.
- Type the outside diameter of the Pipe in the Outside Diam. field.
- Type the Pipe weight in the Weight field.
- The values in the Internal Vol. and Surface Area fields are automatically calculated.
- Click the Save New Pipe Size button to save the new size data to the database size list.
NOTE: If the calculated nominal size is not appropriate or the required nominal size is not available in the dropdown list, a user defined nominal size can be defined.
See Section: System Amendments and Group Updates > User Nominals for further information.
