Can Pipe Flow Expert handle two phase flow?
No. Pipe Flow Expert only models single phase flow.
The Pipe Flow Expert software uses the Darcy-Weisbach equation to calculate pressure loss in a pipe.
The Darcy-Weisbach equation provides very accurate pressure drop results for pipe systems with Newtonian fluids. If the fluid behaves in a Newtonian manner and the viscosity and density of the fluid are known then the Darcy-Weisbach equation provides the best method of modeling your system.
The friction factor used in the Darcy-Weisbach formula is very important and Pipe Flow Expert calculates this using the Colebrook-White equation, to provide the best accuracy.
The Pipe Flow Expert software does not model changes to the fluid's properties (changes due to varying temperature and pressure values) as it flows along a pipe. This is not necessary for Newtonian fluids however changes in temperature and pressure can affect calculations for gas systems. It is up to the user to allow for these effects by constructing pipe system designs that contain fluid zones, which represent the average fluid characteristics for that part of the pipe system. Pipe Flow Expert allows up to 9 different fluid zones, each with different fluid density and fluid viscosity properties.
